What is the Difference Between a Smile Makeover and Full Mouth Reconstruction?

While a smile makeover and full mouth reconstruction both entail personalized treatment plans, the plans have different focuses. A smile makeover tends to focus on cosmetic and aesthetic procedures, while a full-mouth reconstruction focuses on tooth and bite alignment, repairing or replacing damaged or missing teeth, and improving chewing function.

However, it should be noted that cosmetic and restorative dentistry go hand in hand, so aesthetics are restored with restorative procedures and function is enhanced with certain cosmetic procedures.

What Procedures Are Recommended for Full Mouth Reconstruction

At West Augusta Dental Associates, our dentists focus on full-mouth reconstruction treatment plans, knowing that these procedures will also restore the aesthetics of the smile. Some of the treatment procedures our dentists might recommend for a full mouth reconstruction treatment plan are:

  • Tooth-colored fillings — Fillings are recommended for eliminating small areas of tooth decay.
  • Porcelain veneers —  Veneers cover the surfaces of chipped, broken, or discolored teeth.
  • Dental crowns — A crown covers a tooth entirely, and it's recommended for a tooth that has more damage or decay than a filling can handle.
  • Root canal treatment — A root canal eliminates tooth infection and preserves the natural structure of the tooth.
  • Tooth extraction — Recommended to protect against the damage and infection of neighboring teeth when a tooth becomes unsalvageable.
  • Dental bridges — Ideal for replacing one or adjacent missing teeth for patients who don't want to undergo implant surgery.
  • Dental implants — The gold standard in tooth replacement because they replace your root and tooth.
  • Dentures and implant dentures — Designed to replace multiple missing teeth, and even an entire arch.
